Cross Pollination at Marmalade - August 5th, 5:00p.m.

5 - 6 pm Free Bee Yoga with Kat and live music by Deuce.

6:30 - 7pm B-Movie Screening (30 min)
followed by an interactive installation inspired by a hive of honeybees. Features artists of musical, visual, and performance backgrounds working together on this project; viewers will be invited to interact with the space, creating shadow puppets and altering silhouettes. Artists within the various chambers of the hive respond and the distinction between viewing participants and active performers is blurred to form an artistic community collective. Viewers of all ages are welcome.

 

Live Mayan Yoga and Music

Join us this Friday for FREE Live Mayan Yoga and music from 5-6pm with Kat Tudor who recently returned from studying with Mayan cultural teacher and Shaman, Miguel Angel. Crystal & The Curious will continue performing throughout the night as part of the First Friday event. The Community Column unveiling and rituals start at 7pm and the Laughing Lab and Smokebrush Porter BBQ sauce tastings go until 9pm. Sarah Milteer's "Together" exhibit continues through the month.

Smokebrush artists are hosting a fun experience at this year’s WHAT IF! Festival, an Imagination Celebration event.  Please join us for this FREE EVENT!

The What IF! Festival of Innovation and Imagination invites inquisitive community members of all ages to join the day of interaction and creativity. The day-long festival features tech-enthusiasts, art-makers, garage inventors, Do-It-Yourself-ers, scientists, culinary magicians, original musicians, robot builders, urban farmers, innovators, engineers and many other thinkers and tinkerers from the region. The festival includes over 100 interactive booths, demos, video presentations, World Café dialogue sessions, live performances, a bicyclist pavilion + numerous hands-on experiences.

The Jimmy Descant show is up all month at Smokebrush Gallery

 

New Orleans transplant, Salida-based artist Descant makes found-object art as a reaction to his wonder concerning the possibilities of manufactured inanimate objects as art. The pieces used in his work are mostly from before his time, in an era where space travel would be done in something as stylish as a car produced in 1957 Detroit or the Art Deco juicer on the counter.
